Alimena is a small village in the Madonie area of the Province of Palermo, set in a mountainous landscape on the watershed between the Salso River and the Southern Imera. With its white-stone houses and compact historic fabric, it has the character of an inland Sicilian borgo closely tied to its terrain, its farming background and the rhythms of local religious life.
The present village took shape in the 17th century in the former feud of Mazza, where agricultural settlement grew around noble landholding. Its history is linked to the Imperatore and Alimena families: in 1628 Antonio Alimena obtained the *licentia populandi* and the title of Marquis, giving the settlement the basis for its later development.
Part of Alimena’s territory lies within the Madonie Park, and its identity still feels rooted in the meeting of mountain landscape, rural memory and noble-era origins. What makes it distinctive is this combination of white-stone village architecture, Madonie watershed setting and a clearly defined 17th-century foundation story.
