Resuttano

Resuttano is a small hill village in the Province of Caltanissetta, set in inland Sicily among soft rises, broad wheat fields and open views near the Imera-Salso river area. Its elevated position west of the Salso gives it a rural, settled character, with a community identity closely tied to farming, livestock and local devotion.

The village’s name is said to come from the Arabic *Rahal Sultan*, meaning “fortified farm”, a clue to its early strategic role. Its history passed through Arab and Norman phases before becoming, in the 14th century, a feudal possession of the Ventimiglia family. In the 17th century, Girolamo di Napoli founded the newer village on the lands of the Rachilebi fief, and in 1627 he received the title of Prince of Resuttano as the settlement was recognised as a *Terra del Regno*.

What makes Resuttano distinctive is this combination of inland agricultural landscape, Arabic-name memory and feudal-princely origins, preserved in the quiet scale of a Sicilian borgo.
