Sinagra is a small medieval borgo in the Province of Messina, set in the Nebrodi Mountains on the banks of the Naso stream. Surrounded by hazelnut groves, olive trees, chestnut woods and rural countryside, it has a compact, traditional character that explains its nickname, the “Pearl of the Nebrodi”.
Its early history is not entirely straightforward: the settlement is documented in the Norman period, appearing in 1082 in a diploma of Count Roger, while another source links its foundation to 1250 and the Bishop of Patti. In later centuries, Sinagra formed part of the feudal world of families such as the Lancia and the Ventimiglia, leaving it with a clearly medieval identity.
Today the village is remembered as much for its setting as for its past: small-scale, flower-filled and closely tied to local rural traditions. Its place in the “borghi fioriti” circuit and its Nebrodi landscape give Sinagra a distinctive identity as a mountain village where medieval memory and countryside life remain closely connected.
