Roccapalumba

Roccapalumba is a small Sicilian borgo of fewer than 3,000 inhabitants, set near the Monti Sicani in the upper valley of the Torto River. Surrounded by woods and watched over by the steep rocky crag known as the Rocca, the village has a compact rural character shaped by its hillside setting and by a close relationship with the surrounding landscape.

Its name recalls an older feudal identity, Palumba, later joined to the presence of the Rocca that dominates the settlement. The village took shape in the 17th century and was recognised as a municipality in the 18th, while the wider territory preserves traces of human presence from prehistory through the medieval period, giving Roccapalumba a deeper historical background than its modest size might suggest.

Today, Roccapalumba is especially associated with the title *Paese delle Stelle*, the “Village of the Stars”, a name that reflects its clear-sky identity as much as its local pride. Between the rocky silhouette above the village, the wooded Sicani setting and this distinctive astronomical memory, Roccapalumba stands out as a small inland Sicilian community with a character all its own.
