Lascari

Lascari is a small historic borgo near Cefalù, in the northern Sicilian landscape of the former Province of Palermo. Set close to the Tyrrhenian coast, it links a compact village centre with rural land and an extended seafront, giving it a character that is both agricultural and maritime.

Its origins are tied to the late 1600s, when the first settlement grew from families coming from Gratteri; some of the earliest inhabitants lived in the sandstone caves of the area known as “Li Grutti”. The village later developed under Gaetano Ventimiglia, and its name may recall the noble Lascaris dynasty, a connection noted by the historian Villabianca. Older layers of memory remain in the surrounding territory, where medieval and Arab-period traces point to a longer history before the modern borgo took shape.

Today Lascari is defined less by grandeur than by continuity: a community rooted in faith, local traditions and rural memory, shaped by noble authority but sustained by village life. Its distinctiveness lies in this blend of coastal setting, Ventimiglia-era origins and a strong collective identity.
