Torrenova

Torrenova is a small seaside borgo in the Province of Messina, set on Sicily’s Tyrrhenian coast. Its identity is closely tied to the sea, with a broad shoreline and clear coastal waters giving the village a distinctly maritime character.

Although today it is known as a coastal destination, Torrenova has much deeper roots. The first settlement in the area dates back to prehistoric times, followed by Roman and Byzantine phases, and the village later belonged to the territory of San Marco d’Alunzio until the 20th century. Its name is linked to the presence of three military towers, part of a wider coastal warning system used to watch for threats arriving by sea.

This combination of seafront landscape, ancient origins and defensive coastal memory gives Torrenova a character that is more specific than a simple beach village: it is a small Tyrrhenian community whose history has long been shaped by its position between the sea and the older inland world of San Marco d’Alunzio.
