Capo d’Orlando

Capo d’Orlando is a small coastal town in the province of Messina, set on Sicily’s northern shore in the Nebrodi area, between Capo Calavà and Cefalù. Its identity is closely tied to the sea: a former fishing village with a simple maritime character, low houses, small shops and views that open towards the Aeolian Islands on the horizon.

The town’s older memory reaches back to the legendary settlement of Agatirno or Agatirso, said to be connected with Agatirso, son of Aeolus, while its present name belongs to a later Norman-era tradition associated with Orlando, the paladin of Charlemagne. Roman traces also point to an important phase in antiquity, giving the town a historical depth beyond its seaside appearance.

Today, Capo d’Orlando combines a small-town coastal atmosphere with a distinctive cultural identity shaped by fishing traditions, ancient legends and the later memory of the Piccolo family. Its appeal lies in this meeting of sea views, Nebrodi landscape and layered Sicilian history.
