Limina is a small rural village in the Valle d’Agrò, set on the Ionian side of the Peloritani Mountains at the foot of Monte Kalfa. At about 550 metres above sea level, it looks across the valley and neighbouring towns, with a mountain setting that gives the village a clear sense of place.
Its history reaches back beyond the year 1000, with documented records from 1095 and earlier references to the surrounding area during the First Punic War in 260 BC. Limina later developed as an agricultural settlement and became part of a feudal marchisate, before the end of feudalism in 1812 and its establishment as a municipality in 1821.
Today, Limina’s identity is closely tied to rural life, religious tradition and the memory of emigration. Rather than a large tourist centre, it is distinctive as a compact Peloritani village where valley landscape, feudal history and local cultural memory remain strongly connected.
