Ventimiglia di Sicilia is a small hill village in the inland Palermo area, set at the foot of Monte Cane amid a mountain landscape of caves, springs and Mediterranean vegetation. Its scale is modest and quiet, with a rural character closely tied to agricultural life and local Catholic devotion.
The present village dates to the mid-1620s and is strongly associated with Beatrice Ventimiglia, who received the title of Princess of Ventimiglia and the *licentia populandi* in 1627, with permission to name the new settlement Vigintimilia. Its origins are linked to the feudal estate of Calamigna, while the surrounding area preserves memories of much older settlement phases, including Byzantine and Arab presence.
What makes Ventimiglia di Sicilia distinctive is this unusual combination of noble planned foundation, mountain setting and village continuity: a Palermitan borgo whose identity still rests on the legacy of Beatrice Ventimiglia and on the rural landscape beneath Monte Cane.
