Godrano

Godrano is a small mountain village in inland Sicily, in the province of Palermo, set at about 730 metres above sea level amid a wooded natural landscape. Its character is rural and compact, tied to agriculture, livestock traditions and the quieter rhythms of the Palermo hinterland rather than the coast.

The village has very ancient origins, and its name is one of its clearest markers of identity: it derives from the Arabic *Al-Gudran*, linked to a former nearby lake. In the medieval period Godrano became part of a wider feudal world, with connections to the Norman hamlet of Parco Vecchio and later to local noble families. Its importance is also associated with King Pietro I d’Aragona, who in the 14th century chose it as an official abode.

Today, Godrano is best understood as a rural Sicilian settlement where Arab memory, feudal history and a high inland landscape meet, giving the village a distinct identity within the mountains of the Palermo area.
