Santa Elisabetta is a small inland hill village in the province of Agrigento, set at about 425 metres above sea level in a rural landscape shaped by surrounding heights. To the west rises the white gypsum mass of Monte Guastanella, while Keli hill borders the settlement to the north, giving the village a compact, elevated setting with a strongly agricultural character.
The village takes its name from Saint Elizabeth, and its present historic nucleus began to develop in 1620 under Nicola Montaperto. Its identity also reaches further back: the area preserves memories of prehistoric settlement and later late Roman-Byzantine, Arab and Norman phases, before becoming part of the feudal world of the Montaperto family, recorded here from 1305.
Today Santa Elisabetta remains closely tied to rural life, with local memory centred on peasant work, livestock raising and the rhythms of the countryside. What makes it distinctive is the way its hill landscape, feudal origins and deep archaeological background meet in a small village whose character is still rooted in the land around it.
