Gualtieri Sicaminò is a small agricultural borgo in the Messina area, set inland from the Gulf of Milazzo among olive groves, vineyards and orange groves. The village is crossed by the Gualtieri stream, which divides the settlement into two sides linked by four bridges, giving its compact historic centre a distinctive shape within the surrounding countryside.
Its identity comes from the union of two older settlements, Gualtieri and Sicaminò. Sicaminò appears in records as early as 1088, when Count Roger assigned it to Gualtieri di Gavarretta, while Gualtieri is documented in the medieval period and later tied to feudal history. In the 19th century, Duke Bartolomeo Avarna unified the two territories into the municipality known today as Gualtieri Sicaminò.
Quiet and rural, the village keeps the character of a small inland community whose history is visible in its layout as much as in its traditions. What makes it distinctive is this double origin: two medieval places, separated by water and joined over time into one village.
